Focus on mine safety: ISSA Mining premieres at the World Mining Congress & Expo in Istanbul

Helmut Ehnes For the first time ever in the long history of the World Mining Congress, ISSA Mining joined and brought the aspect of safety and health in mining to this important event for the industry. ISSA Mining's delegates initiated a dialogue on international cooperation to systematically improve mining safety.
 
 

Independent Mine Safety Audits (IMSA) – A Turkey/ISSA Mining Project to Improve Mining Safety

Improving the safety standards and health promotion in Turkish mining is the aim of a joint project by ISSA Mining, Turkish mining cooperation Türkiye Taşkömürü Kurumu (TTK), and the Turkish Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Within this cooperation, measures to enhance the level of occupational safety and health in the mining industry are defined, tested and evaluated on the basis of the framework of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The instruments are designed to increase productivity as well as to ensure an optimized organizational structure and fewer accidents, incidents, and health related loss of work time. Following a holistic approach, the economical performance will be taken into consideration as well as aspects up to the miner’s personal situation.
 
 

ISSA Mining at the 34th International Conference of Safety in Mines Research Institutes

250 industry experts, among them many researchers on mine safety, joined the 34th International Conference of Safety in Mines Research Institutes at the India Habitat Center, New Delhi, India, 6. - 9. December 2011 and were able to hear very interesting presentations by highly competent experts. As in prior years, this conference has been successfully providing a common forum to academicians, researchers, safety experts, and industry professionals for discussion and assessment of challenges and achievements in the field of mines safety and disaster management.
